my mate was looking to leave his job. got another one and was waiting for his offer letter before chucking in his notice. in the meantime they announced redundancies, so he told his new employers he made a mistake and was on a 3 mth notice rather than 1 mth. they said ok.
he then never quit, got made redundant and walked away with 45k. took a week off, then started his new job.

Just taken voluntary, last day here is 1st April then for the next 9 months im on full pay while they try and find me another job. If I still dont have a job I will get my redundancy package. If I really want to be a bum I can claim from the Dutch government 75% of my wage (although capped) for another 2 years. Saying that I jumped before I was pushed here so cant have any regrets.

Looks like I'm being made redundant from my local council IT procurement job.
£34K redundancy of which £30K tax free.
I owe £158000 incuding the mortage so its a piss in the ocean.
Gis a job.

didnt take it at my place and regretted it!! would have got about 30k, and likely walked into a job easily.
only the impending birth of my son put me off - didnt wanna take the risk.

My experience of VR is that the company got rid of 20% of its staff the very people who held 80% of the company knowledge. The company floundered, was taken over and guess what?
You've got it, many of the essential people who were paid off were taken back and at a better rate of pay.

Despite what some posters are saying about "got X years redundancy tax free" the maximum amount of tax free redundancy pay is £30k. Anything over that taxed at your marginal tax rate.
Limit hasn't changed since 1988!

Riddle - that's what is happening here.
Lot of people don't like the new ideas for where it's going. So they had an underspend and want out some of the old cunts.
Which surprises me why they are saying I wouldn't get it.

Was made redundant years ago with just the statutory amount, which didn't lasted about three months, it was in a recession so couldn't get another decent job so started on my own, which I wouldn't recommend unless you find a niche and have skills that are rare to set you apart.
I always thought offering voluntary redundancy is a good way for management to sound out who really wants out, offer it to a few and then get rid of the others who wanted out by making them redundant. Bad for business having people working for you who don't want to be there.

My mate is a commodity broker. Flash fucker.
His company got taken over. He was made redundant, got a 100k pay out and was then told he could apply for his job again the next day!
Madness. Basically 100k in the bank because the company he worked for was bought out.

I also a new a few people that worked in Ad Sales for Channel 5. It was bought by Sky and back in April, they made the entire sales team redundant (Sky had people to handle it all themselves).
Every single person was paid a minimum of their salary from April to the end of the year (9mths). Some people had started a few weeks previously and got that. Others had been there for years and walked away with £100k odd! Not bad going really!

I took VR a few years ago (although it was a combination of that and a pay off as the new director wasn't keen on me because I wasn't towing the line).
Got far more than I should have, helped settle a few outstanding debts and found myself a new position with some cash in the bank!

Took VR about 25 years ago - "bright young things" wormed their way into (higher) management, introduced loads of "forward thinking concepts" before fucking off, leaving everybody else to try and clean the resultant shit up after them. On top of that, bean-counters moved into the ascendency and all thoughts of service ethic went out of the window.
Got a decent pay-off and had planned a 9 month break doing all the things I wanted to before but never had the chance - still haven't done most of them as 3 months in I got bored, saw a gap in a local market where I could use my skills and started my own consultancy. A few months later I got a contract based in Stockholm and have never looked back since.
Made a lot of friends - and trod on a load more toes - on the journey: the friends keep me sane, those still holding a grudge about their toes keep me amused. Some are still holding that grudge after almost a decade and provide the most amusement.
The general rule seems to be "only take the package if the money included is enough to keep you afloat at least twice as long as you expect to secure another viable, sustainable income stream."
If any free training/re-training is included, grab all that, too.

Similar story to yours Sven. A mate of mine's father worked for the NHS and had designed some major piece of software that they all used.
Got made redundant, then they realised that they actually needed him because nobody else could support it.
Said he would only come back as a contractor - £1k a day. Nice work NHS.

Not a voluntary redundancy but a friend of mine got made redundant after 15 years with the NHS in a relatively senior position and got £90,000.
She now works for ..... the NHS

One fella here is nearing retirement age, he's 2 months over the threshold so he gets 6 months as opposed to the full 60-70k
And he's a jew.

Had a load of people take a payout from our place a couple of years ago. Loads decided to take a couple of months off - that turned into 6+ months - then started to moan they were skint and couldn't find a job.
If you take a payout don't hang about.
